PE and Sport Premium

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality and breadth of PE, sport and physical activity.

The funding is intended to support schools in providing high-quality PE and sporting opportunities, increasing participation in physical activity and helping pupils develop healthy, active lifestyles.

How we use our funding

At Bedford Drive, our PE and Sport Premium funding supports a range of activities and opportunities, including:

  • Increasing opportunities for children to take part in sporting competitions and events.

  • Providing active playtimes and lunchtimes.

  • Working with specialist sports coaches to increase participation and develop sporting skills.

  • Providing additional swimming opportunities.

  • Supporting children to develop their physical skills, confidence and enjoyment of sport.

  • Promoting the importance of regular physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

  • Providing opportunities for children to develop leadership skills through sport and physical activity.

Our aims

Through our use of the PE and Sport Premium, we aim to:

  • Increase participation in physical activity and sport.

  • Provide a wider range of sporting experiences for our pupils.

  • Improve pupils' physical skills and confidence.

  • Encourage children to be active during the school day.

  • Develop positive attitudes towards physical activity and healthy lifestyles.

  • Ensure that all pupils have opportunities to participate, regardless of their ability or previous experience.

Impact of the funding

We regularly review how our PE and Sport Premium funding is used and consider the impact it has on our pupils.

Our aim is to ensure that the funding has a positive and lasting impact on children's participation, skills, confidence and enjoyment of physical activity and sport.

Changes to PE and Sport Funding

The Government has announced changes to the way PE and school sport will be supported in schools.

The 2025/26 academic year is the final year of the existing Primary PE and Sport Premium. From 2026/27, the Government is introducing a new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network, which is expected to be fully operational from spring 2027.

The new approach will provide schools with access to wider expertise and support to help increase participation in high-quality PE, school sport and physical activity.

Bedford Drive will continue to use its 2025/26 PE and Sport Premium allocation of £19,410 to support physical activity and sporting opportunities for our pupils. We will continue to keep our provision under review as the new arrangements are introduced.

Further information about the new national PE and school sport arrangements can be found on the GOV.UK website.
