Our Governing Body
From September 2026, Bedford Drive School will be moving to a Circle Model of governance.
The Circle Model will bring our governors together as one full Governing Body, with individual governors taking responsibility for specific areas of school life. This will provide a clear and collaborative approach to governance, with governors working together to support and challenge the school.
What do our governors do?
Our Governing Body works with the Headteacher and school leaders to provide strategic oversight of the school and to ensure that we continue to focus on the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
Governors will:
Monitor the school's progress against its development priorities.
Review pupils' attainment, progress and achievement.
Monitor attendance and behaviour.
Oversee safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
Review the effectiveness of the curriculum.
Monitor SEND and inclusion provision.
Monitor the impact of Pupil Premium and PE and Sport Premium funding.
Monitor the school's finances and use of resources.
Monitor health and safety arrangements.
Ensure that statutory responsibilities and key school policies are appropriately overseen.
Our Link Governors
As part of the Circle Model, individual governors will have responsibility for specific areas. Link governors will work with relevant members of staff, develop their understanding of their area of responsibility and report back to the full Governing Body.

How will governors monitor the school?
Governors will work with school leaders and staff to develop an understanding of their areas of responsibility and monitor the school's progress.
This may include:
Reviewing attainment and progress information.
Considering the performance of different groups of pupils.
Visiting the school.
Reviewing evidence relating to school improvement.
Listening to pupil voice.
Meeting with staff responsible for specific areas.
Reporting findings and updates to the full Governing Body.
The Circle Model provides governors with opportunities to monitor the school's progress, ask questions, provide appropriate challenge and offer support.

Working Together
Our governors play an important role in supporting Bedford Drive School. They work alongside the Headteacher and school leaders to provide support, oversight and challenge, helping to ensure that the school continues to meet its responsibilities and remains focused on achieving positive outcomes for all pupils.
We meet as a Full Governing Body at least once per term. At the start of the year, we also hold a business meeting to select our Chair / Vice Chair and set committee membership for the year.
Our Governing Body has three main core elements of their work:
Setting the vision and strategic direction of the school
Holding the Headteacher accountable for the schools performance
Ensuring the financial resources are well spent
They also support the Headteacher and school by:
Determining how the schools budget is spent
Supporting with recruitment and hearing appeals and grievances
Forming policy for pupils behavior and discipline
Making sure school buildings are welcome and safe
Setting and monitoring the schools aims and policies
